Prime Minister Jafar Hassan laid the foundation stone on Sunday for a project to supply natural gas to Rawdha Industrial City in the Ma'an Development Zone, shortly before chairing a Cabinet session in Ma'an Governorate. The project will cost approximately JD10 million, funded through a grant from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development - part of a broader grant totalling around JD50 million that the fund has provided to support natural gas supply projects across several of Jordan's industrial cities.

The project forms part of the government's strategy to connect industrial zones throughout the Kingdom to the natural gas network, a step expected to reduce energy costs for industries by between 35 and 60 per cent. The government has already completed and inaugurated similar projects in South Aqaba, Quweira, Qastal and Hashimiyya. Work is currently under way on the Rawdha Industrial City and Muwaqqar projects, while feasibility studies are being completed for two further projects in the King Hussein Development Zone in Mafraq and in Zarqa.
The Rawdha Industrial City gas supply project is expected to be completed within 18 months. The government said it would strengthen the city's competitiveness and appeal to investors, support the industrial sector, boost national exports and create employment opportunities for the local community.
The project launch also follows a Cabinet decision to extend to Rawdha Industrial City the same investment incentives and benefits already available to the Karak and Tafileh industrial cities. Those incentives include energy cost subsidies, support for local labour wages, reduced container-handling fees at Aqaba Port, and lower land prices.
