AMMAN — The president of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), Mazen Al-Maaytah, stressed the importance of developing the skills of young people and developing their capabilities to be in line with the requirements of the labor market in light of the changes it is witnessing in new patterns, fields, and emerging professions.اضافة اعلان

He said that many specializations that young people study do not have a future in the labor market and do not provide them with job opportunities that secure a decent livelihood. The rapid changes witnessed by the labor market are reflected in the nature of professions and jobs needed by it and required by employers.

He recalled His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives to the government to develop a vocational training and technical education environment. He confirmed its role in reducing unemployment rates among young people and providing job opportunities in vocational and technical employment sectors, entrepreneurship, and freelancing.

Maaytah stressed the necessity of continuous cooperation and real partnership between labor, employers, and government, in order to have a broader understanding of what is in demand in the labor market.

This is within the framework of efforts made by the Vocational and Technical Skills Development Authority, Vocational Training Corporation, and related parties.

The quarterly report of the Department of Statistics on unemployment rates in the Kingdom for the first quarter of this year showed that the unemployment rate among young people between the ages of 15–24 reached 46.1 percent. The unemployment rate was also high among university degree holders.
