These remarks came during an inspection tour of the Dahr Al-Tell area, where Al-Masri was accompanied by former Prime Minister Abdul Raouf Al-Rawabdeh (Chairman of the Irbid Reconstruction Corporation), Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah, Chairman of the Greater Irbid Municipality Committee Imad Al-Azzam, President of Yarmouk University Malik Al-Sharayri, and Acting Governor of Irbid Raed Al-Jaafarah.
Key Project Features and Aesthetic Restoration
Al-Masri explained that the development includes the restoration of the Irbid Secondary School for Boys as a core component. He stressed the necessity of removing overhead power lines in the area and replacing them with underground cables to preserve the site's aesthetic character.
The Minister also emphasized the importance of joint studies between the Irbid Municipality and Yarmouk University, particularly regarding traffic management. This includes conducting a comprehensive traffic count and developing an integrated plan for squares, traffic lights, and speed bumps throughout the city.
Institutional Collaboration and Cultural Heritage
Abdul Raouf Al-Rawabdeh: Pointed out that the plaza opposite Irbid Secondary School currently suffers from "visual pollution" and needs rehabilitation to be integrated into the Tell Garden. He also suggested establishing a public library within one of the area's heritage houses.
Azmi Mahafzah: Affirmed that Irbid Secondary School and the Wasfi Al-Tell Industrial School are vital cultural and educational landmarks that must be preserved as part of the downtown development.
Imad Al-Azzam: Highlighted that the municipality has provided alternatives to the Public Security Directorate to vacate the Tell area, allowing the garden project to cover the entire site.
Malik Al-Sharayri: Confirmed that Yarmouk University is fully partnered with the municipality in preparing blueprints and providing academic expertise for the city's development.
Permanent Agricultural Exhibition
The visit concluded with a meeting at the Irbid Reconstruction Corporation, attended by Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khreisat. It was agreed to form a Board of Directors for the Permanent Exhibition for Agricultural and Rural Products. This board, which includes senior municipal and ministry officials, will establish regulations, appoint an advisory committee, and study the operational mechanisms for the exhibition.
