Jordan calls Security Council to force Israel to open crossings, allow aid into Gaza
Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mahmoud al-Hmoud urged the UN Security Council on Wednesday to compel Israel to fulfill its obligations regarding the opening of crossings and the timely entry of humanitarian aid across Gaza.اضافة اعلان

He emphasised the need for the facilitation of food, medicine, fuel and shelter supplies to meet the basic needs of the population and alleviate their suffering, in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions, notably Resolution No. 2735.

In a speech before the Security Council session on Palestine, al-Hmoud highlighted that the Council is convening at a difficult and critical time, as Israeli aggression continues in Gaza, resulting in the loss of innocent lives, destruction of vital infrastructure and an ongoing siege that blatantly violates international law and humanitarian principles.

He stated that since the war began, more than 52,000 people were killed, most of them children and women, while over 2 million residents are enduring severe hardships due to indiscriminate Israeli bombings, collapsing health systems, famine, epidemics and diseases.

Al-Hmoud condemned the Israeli actions as serious violations international law, UN resolutions, human rights rules and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

He pointed out Israel's non-compliance with interim measures issued by the International Court of Justice.

Al-Hmoud called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the lifting of the inhumane blockade and an end to systematic starvation policies imposed on Gaza's residents.

He stressed the importance of implementing the exchange agreement, achieved through Egyptian, Qatari and American efforts, in all its stages.

He underscored the necessity of reconstructing Gaza, referencing the Egyptian-Palestinian plan, which enjoys support from Arab and Islamic countries and has received broad international backing.

He highlighted the tragic situation in the occupied West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem, where Israeli escalation continues with policies of demolition, forced displacement, land seizures and Israeli forces-baked incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque, protected by Israeli forces.

Such actions, he said, are severe violations of international law and attempt to alter the historical and religious status of Jerusalem.

Al-Hmoud reiterated Jordan's longstanding role in defending the sanctities of Jerusalem and preserving its Arab identity, calling on the international community to support Palestinian resilience against Israeli Judaisation and annexation efforts.

He demanded that the Security Council hold Israel accountable for its violations, warning of the risk of regional escalation.

He emphasised the "critical" role of UNRWA in providing humanitarian assistance in the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza and other areas, and he condemned recent Israeli legislation targeting the agency and its programmes.

He urged the international community to enhance political, legal and financial support to ensure UNRWA's vital humanitarian work continues.

Al-Hmoud reaffirmed Jordan's support for the right of Palestinian refugees to return and receive compensation, consistent with international resolutions.

He stressed that a just and permanent peace remains the strategic goal, achievable only through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative.

He called for urgent efforts to cease hostilities immediately, allow unobstructed humanitarian aid and pursue a political process leading to comprehensive peace based on the two-state framework.
