Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Al-Saud officially inaugurated the platform as part of ongoing efforts to boost water cooperation and confront challenges in the sector.

Abu Al-Saud affirmed that the launch reflects a shared commitment to strengthening water sector governance and advancing institutional cooperation through a unified central platform. He described it as a translation of the qualitative progress in Jordanian–Syrian relations through technical coordination in managing shared water resources. He emphasized the importance of cooperation in tackling regional water scarcity, in line with directives of His Majesty the King and within the framework of the second session of the Jordanian–Syrian Higher Coordination Council held in Amman on April 12.

He added that the platform also reflects the depth of fraternal ties, as highlighted by Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, particularly regarding water-sharing between the two countries. It represents a strategic step that demonstrates a shared awareness of water challenges and a joint commitment to collaborative work based on knowledge and data exchange, serving the interests of both nations and their peoples.

Abu Al-Saud also praised the technical support provided by the United States government to ensure the security and accessibility of data management systems, which contributed to the development of the platform as a practical model for cooperation in supporting water sustainability. He reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and openness to initiatives that promote water security as a key pillar of stability and sustainable development.

Syrian Assistant Minister of Energy Osama Abu Zaid commended Jordan’s position, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, in supporting the Syrian people—particularly its hosting of Syrians during the years of conflict—reflecting the deep historical and humanitarian ties between the two nations. He reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to developing the Yarmouk Basin and achieving sustainable water resource management.

He noted that the launch of the joint digital platform is not merely a technical achievement, but a practical embodiment of shared values of cooperation. It enhances transparency, improves efficiency in water resource management, and supports a modern, data-driven and institutionally integrated approach. The platform will unify databases related to the Yarmouk Basin, improve the accuracy of hydrological monitoring and measurements, facilitate information exchange among relevant institutions, support joint studies and planning, and strengthen the capacity to address various water challenges.

Secretary General of the Jordan Valley Authority Hisham Al-Hiyasa stated that effective water resource management is no longer optional but an urgent necessity. He highlighted the platform’s importance as an advanced tool enabling data-driven decision-making and improving planning efficiency and responsiveness to shared challenges.

On the Jordanian side, the platform integrates with national water systems such as the Water Management Information System (WMIS), ensuring automated and organized data flow. On the Syrian side, it allows direct data entry and uploading through its dedicated online portal, enhancing data comprehensiveness and continuous updating.

He added that this is the first platform globally for joint cooperation between countries in the field of shared water basins, enabling the implementation of multiple projects, supporting water sustainability, advancing agriculture, and assisting farmers in the basin.

The platform also provides an interactive environment that supports cooperation between both parties by enabling meetings, training programs, and secure sharing of files and information. Access to data and services is managed through a permissions system, ensuring that each user can access information relevant to their role and responsibilities.

Participants emphasized that launching this platform marks an important step toward enhancing integrated water resource management and strengthening technical cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, contributing to addressing shared water challenges and achieving optimal water use.
