Amman - The Consumer Price Index (CPI), an indicator of inflation, rose by 1.67 percent in the first half of this year, reaching 110.36, compared to 108.55 for the same period last year.اضافة اعلان

The monthly report of the Department of Statistics showed on Thursday that among the most prominent commodity groups that contributed to the rise in the cumulative consumer price index in the first half of this year, compared to the same period of the previous year, the index for the group of personal effects increased by 8.38 percent, and water and sanitation by 7.34 percent, contributions to unions by 5.86 percent, rents by 4.03 percent, and meat and poultry by 3.74 percent.

The Consumer Price Index for June of this year also rose to 110.74 points, compared to 108.83 points for the same month last year, recording an increase of 1.75 percent.

The report explained that what contributed to the rise in the general consumer price index for June of 2024 compared to the same month of 2023 was mainly personal luggage collections by 10.28 percent, water and sanitation by 7.34 percent, contributions to unions by 5.86 percent, fruits and nuts by 5.64 percent, and dry and canned vegetables and legumes by 5.49 percent. Meanwhile, the groups of oils and fats contributed a decrease of 2.37 percent, clothing by 1.59 percent, home textiles by 1.25 percent, and furniture, carpets, and bedding by 1.19 percent.

According to the report, the index for June of the current year increased by 0.15 percent, reaching 110.74, compared to 110.58 for the previous month of the same year.

Among the most prominent commodity groups that contributed to the rise in the general consumer price index for June 2024 compared to the previous month of May were rents by 1.71 percent, fruits and nuts by 1.67 percent, culture and entertainment by 1.34 percent, clothing by 1.03 percent, and spices, food enhancers, and other foods by 0.48 percent.
