Recent data from the Civil Status and Passports Department shows that 67.3% of Jordanian women (aged 15 and above) have been married at some point, while 56.9% of Jordanian men (aged 15 and above) have also experienced marriage. This category includes those currently married, as well as divorced individuals and widows/widowers.

The Higher Population Council stated that if the youngest age group (15–19) is excluded, the percentage of those who have ever been married rises to 66.7% among Jordanian men and 77.5% among Jordanian women. In general, the proportion increases with age, reaching around 96% among both men and women aged 75 and above.
Regarding polygamy among Jordanian men, it remains relatively rare. Only about 1.3% of married men have more than one wife—approximately 39,000 individuals. The low rate is largely attributed to the fact that men who remarry often divorce their first wife beforehand, meaning they typically end up with only one spouse. As a result, monogamy remains the dominant pattern in Jordanian society.
As for marital status categories such as divorced individuals and widows/widowers, the divorce rate among Jordanians aged 25 and above stands at 3.3% for men and 5.6% for women. However, there is a significant disparity in widowhood rates: among men aged 60 and above, less than 1% are widowers, while the figure rises to approximately 42% among women in the same age group. In terms of numbers, there are fewer than 3,000 widowers compared to around 221,000 widows.
According to the council, this large gap in widowhood rates between men and women is due to nine factors—seven demographic and social, one biological, and one legislative.
