Freihat stated that the theme for Day of the Seafarer 2026, "We Carry Global Trade... And We Carry the Risks," embodies the true reality of the role seafarers play as the backbone of the global economy. With over 80 percent of world trade volume transported by sea, seafarers are essential partners in delivering food, energy, raw materials, and goods globally, despite the challenges, risks, and harsh working conditions they face.
He added that despite the Kingdom's limited coastline, Jordanian seafarers have demonstrated high competence and an outstanding presence across various maritime disciplines—particularly in marine piloting, ship towing, port operations management, and maritime safety. He affirmed that they represent a model of discipline, professionalism, and commitment to the highest international standards, directly contributing to the national economy and enhancing the Port of Aqaba's standing as a pivotal logistical hub in the region.
Freihat pointed out that the Aqaba Port Marine Services Company plays a central role in providing specialized marine services within Jordanian ports. This is achieved by executing ship towing and piloting operations, ensuring safe entry, exit, docking maneuvers, and departures with the highest levels of efficiency and safety, alongside providing maritime support services that streamline navigation and boost operational efficiency within the port.
He stressed that the company continues to invest in developing its human resources, modernizing its marine fleet, and raising the readiness of its equipment in line with international best practices and standards. This ongoing investment enhances the competitiveness of the Port of Aqaba, solidifying its position as Jordan's primary maritime gateway, fully capable of absorbing the continuous growth in vessel traffic and maritime trade.
Freihat explained that the company’s seafarers work around the clock under all weather conditions to ensure maritime safety, bearing major responsibilities that demand the highest levels of expertise and discipline. He praised the dedicated efforts of all workers in the maritime sector to guarantee the continuity of port services efficiently and reliably.
Captain Zafer Freihat extended his highest expressions of appreciation and gratitude to all Jordanian seafarers and maritime sector workers. He concluded by noting that this occasion is an opportunity to renew pride in their humanitarian and professional mission, as they are key partners in protecting sea lanes, supporting the national economy, and reinforcing the security and sustainability of global trade, wishing them continuous safety and success as they carry out their duties with dedication and competence.
