Gov't denies rumors of new tax increase on cigarettes

AMMAN — The Income and Sales Tax Department confirmed, Wednesday, that no new taxes will be imposed on any goods or services, including on cigarettes and tobacco.اضافة اعلان

The department denied rumors circulating it intends to raise taxes on these items, saying that they are unfounded, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.
Tobacco companies are to raise the prices of one packet of cigarettes from 5 to 15 piasters
It added its tallying with government policy not to raise taxes and increase the financial burden on citizens.

Commitment to no new taxesFinance Minister Muhammad Al-Ississ confirmed in previous statements the government's commitment not to impose any new taxes or increase current taxes for the fourth year in a row.

He added that he expects non-tax revenues to grow by 6.6 percent compared to the re-estimation for 2022, and to increase external grants to reach JD802 million for the year 2023, and/or by 0.8 percent over 2022.

Tobacco companies are to raise the prices of one packet of cigarettes from 5 to 15 piasters, according to what the companies confirmed to Al-Mamlaka TV.
