In a press statement on Saturday, he said the decision will support competitiveness of the local product, and stimulate Jordan's industry to produce "efficient and high" quality.

Jordanian industry applies the "highest" standards enabling it to compete with the best industries in the region, he said, adding that the factories have "remarkable" potential, thanks to the "high" investments that have been pumped to meet local market's requirements.

Jaghbir called on the government to support the Jordanian industry in various fields, especially by applying the principle of reciprocity with the countries exporting to the Kingdom.

The decision applies if three domestic producers are available, which meet Jordanian standards and provide a certificate of conformity from the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organisation.

The purchases also have to meet the standards listed in the governmental purchases forms.
