French-based Christian group hosts meeting at baptism site in 2023

AMMAN — A Christian group said it will hold its annual meetings next years at the baptismal site on the Jordanian Bank of the Jordan River, where tradition says Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist, a local media outlet reported.اضافة اعلان

The General Assembly of the National Association of Directors of Christian Pilgrimage in France, known in French as the Association Nationale des Directeurs Diocésains des Pèlerinages/ANDDP, made the announcement at a ceremony in the French city of Paray-le-Moniel.

The event was attended by more than 180 directors of pilgrimage trips from France.

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) Nayef Al-Fayez led a Jordanian delegation to the meeting in France.

Fayez stressed the importance of the ceremony, and pointed out that the General Assembly is planning Christian pilgrimage trips to several religious sites worldwide, including Jordan to tour religious and archaeological sites, and to live a unique experience with the local community.

JTB’s Director-General Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat said the announcement is a “positive step in promoting religious tourism to the Kingdom”.

He said the JTB will facilitate pilgrimage trips, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Royal Jordanian (RJ), and 180 pilgrimage leaders who will encourage their offices to come to Jordan to perform a Christian pilgrimage starting next year.

Director-General of the Baptism Site Commission Rustom Mkhjian said that the announcement was a result of the distinguished work of the Jordanian team led by the minister of tourism.

He pointed explained that that the assembly’s session will be held for the first time in the Kingdom at the baptism site’s convention center. He said he expected pilgrimage trips to various religious sites to start in March.
