Citizens in southern Jordan concerned over water sector privatization

AMMAN — Citizens in Karak, Tafileh, and Maan have voiced their rejection to having the management of the water sector in these governorates handed over to the company that currently manages the water sector in Aqaba, according to Khaberni News. اضافة اعلان

The Water Authority at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation was considering taking this decision as of April 2022. Protestors said the decision would affect consumers in Karak, Tafileh, and Maan.

They also said that Aqaba residents had an unsatisfactory experience with the company that currently manages the water sector in Aqaba, having complained about the increase in water bills due to the application of the smart water meters.

Protestors called on the Water Authority not to replace the water meters so as not to burden consumers with additional costs that would worsen their living condition.
