AMMAN — The Anti-Cyber Crimes Unit of the
Public Security Directorate has arrested six individuals linked to cyber-fraud,
according to a spokesperson. The arrests were made in response to complaints
from citizens who fell victim to electronic fraud schemes.
Perpetrators employed tactics such as
posing as individuals requiring or offering assistance, as well as
impersonating official institutions to deceive victims into divulging their
banking information, Hala News reported.
Impersonating bank employees and soliciting
data updates is particularly hazardous. The directorate emphasizes that banks
never request personal data updates over the phone.
To avoid falling prey to these schemes, the
public is urged to enhance their digital awareness, exercise caution when
encountering unfamiliar or unknown entities, and promptly report any suspicious
activities through phone messages, social media channels, or by contacting the
authorities directly.
