Amman mayor attends UN sustainable development forum

AMMAN —  Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) mayor, Yousef Al-Shawarbeh, attended the Local and Regional Government Forum (LRGF) at the UN headquarters in New York. The forum aimed to announce significant commitments to advance sustainable development goals (SDGs).اضافة اعلان

Amman is the first Arab city to launch its voluntary review, showcasing achievements in six SDGs with the participation of 60 specialized organizations. Cooperation extends to the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), and UCLG Middle East and West Asia Section (UCLG MEWA).

Sustainability projectsGreater Amman Municipality has initiated a sustainable e-transformation plan and a smart traffic management project, making services fully accessible online, and is working toward gender equality and women's empowerment.

They are also prioritizing sustainable transport through the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project. Shawarbeh affirmed Amman's commitment to furthering SDGs in collaboration with all partners.

GAM's 2022-2026 strategy aligns with Royal directives, global SDGs, and citizens' needs, focusing on quality of life and environment, transportation, infrastructure, and investment.
