The General Exam Committee at the Ministry of Education approved that students of the 2007 cohort—who are the last group under the old system—will be treated according to the old instructions regarding grade improvement in the upcoming supplementary exam session. This means that students from the 2007 cohort and earlier are allowed to register for an unlimited number of subjects, and the highest grade will be counted for them, except for grade improvement students (those who scored 50% or more of the maximum mark in all subjects), for whom the most recent grade will be counted.

The new General Secondary Education instructions apply to students from the 2008 cohort onward. These instructions state that a student may retake any subject an unlimited number of times if they scored less than 50% in it. For subjects in which the student scored 50% or more, they are allowed to retake a maximum of two subjects for the purpose of raising their average.
