The report indicated that approximately 16,000 Syrian refugees returned in September, compared to 22,000 in August, attributing the decline to the start of the school year.
As of the end of September, 488,000 Syrian refugees were registered with UNHCR in Jordan, with 81% living within local communities and children representing 48% of the total refugee population.
Since 8 December 2024 to 11 October 2025, nearly 162,550 registered Syrian refugees have returned to Syria.
In support of voluntary returns, UNHCR launched a pilot cash assistance program in September, targeting around 10,000 refugees in Zaatari and Azraq camps, providing 70 JOD per family member upon completing the voluntary return assessment.
This initiative complements existing transportation assistance, with UNHCR arranging return trips for about 1,200 refugees from camps and communities in September, bringing the total number of beneficiaries since the program’s launch on 20 January 2025 to over 9,500 refugees.
Additionally, 50 refugees left Jordan in September for resettlement in other countries.
