18th Pediatrics medicine conference gets underway in Amman

AMMAN — The 18th Jordanian Pediatric Society Conference, the 22nd Arab Pediatric Society Conference, and the 8th Arab Italian Pediatric Society Conference all began Wednesday in Amman, according to Jordan News Agency, Petra.  اضافة اعلان

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health for Primary Health Care and Epidemiology, Raed Shboul, said that the Ministry of Health has prioritized health care for children and has implemented numerous plans and programs related to primary, secondary, and tertiary health care that benefit all segments of society and people of all ages.

He went on to say that the National Vaccination Program is one of the most prominent primary health care programs implemented by the Ministry for the care of children, and it is regarded as one of the most successful programs in the region and the world, with a coverage rate of more than 90 percent.

Shboul noted that the ministry launched a nation-wide newborn hearing impairment or loss screening project with the aim of avoiding negative developmental outcomes resulting from delayed diagnosis.

The ministry also established a national committee to begin screening newborns for congenital malformations with the goal of providing early treatment to prevent the onset of physical and psychological complications.

He noted that the ministry opened three centers in the north, center, and south specifically dedicated to treating this disease, and that the ministry established a national registry for cystic fibrosis to account for all cases of this illness.

Basem Zoabi, the conference's director, stated that the four-day conference will cover a variety of pediatrics-related topics and feature the participation of 40 lecturers and pediatric specialists from Jordan and abroad. It will also cover 120 papers and scientific research.

The conference will focus on chronic diseases of the liver, kidneys, heart, glands, respiratory system, neonatology, gastrointestinal tract, and others.
