AMMAN — The Jordanian fashion designers Nour Nofal and Saja Nawafleh aimed to create a fashion line that gives options to those who prefer a modest look, especially those who wear the hijab, while allowing them to remain fashionable, stylish, and unique, which is how “Suitek Design” came to life.اضافة اعلان

In an interview with Jordan News, Nawafleh discussed how obtaining fashionable modest clothing is difficult nowadays and emphasized that it’s time to develop new and accessible ensembles.

The two fashion designers shared a love for fashion design, which led them to pursue an education in the field. While completing their studies to get a diploma in fashion design, Nofal and Nawafleh became acquainted and decided to collaborate, so they launched Suitek Design in 2020.

“As a hijab-wearing woman, I wanted to find pieces that complimented my classical and fashionable style while being modest,” Nawafleh said.
As the times change, designers are becoming more willing to create inclusive designs to meet the demands of Hijabi-wearing women, and Nofal and Nawafleh wanted to be part of the move towards inclusivity.

“It used to be difficult to find an outfit that is suitable for the hijab, which pushed Saja and me to create our brand Suitek Design,” Nofal said.

The designers shared that they are primarily interested in creating clothing that fits current designs and styles and creating modern and modest pieces.
“Our goal is to create designs that are both appropriate for hijab-wearing women and appeal to our personal styles,” Nawafleh said.

Modesty implies wearing an attire without being exposed in ways that you are uncomfortable with or in ways that are prohibited based on religious beliefs.
The designers noted that it could sometimes be challenging to acquire readily available modest clothing. Still, it is always worth altering a piece to be modest rather than simply making do with what the market offers.

“If we loved a design or an outfit that is immodest, we add on to it and make it modest,” Nawafleh said.

The brand aims to make the hijab-wearing woman love her style by providing them with different designs and colors. Nawafleh also noted that many hijab-wearing women like a particular style but feel like it does not suit them, which is where Suitek Design comes to play.

“In order to keep the hijab-wearing woman in line with fashion, we work to transform pieces into modest designs that suit her,” Nawafleh said.

To create fashionable pieces, the founders mentioned that they keep up with worldwide fashion trends, which form a basis for the designs produced each season and alter them to become modest while still preserving their style.
“We are always up to date with fashion trends,” Nawafleh said, adding that they keep up to date with the fashion weeks and known international fashion designers.

Nawafleh added that all the designed pieces are suitable and comfortable for the Hijab-wearing woman, explaining that women do not have to add any piece such as a jacket to make the outfit more modest or fit with religious requirements.

The designers use many different clothing materials such as satin, linen, wool, and leather, and they create a new design every two weeks and a new collection every season.

According to the founders, the design takes days and sometimes weeks of work and effort in terms of design and colors.

Nawafleh added that the designers ensure that they use the yearly color trends, which sometimes restrict them when producing collections. However, if they like a color, they also add a modern design to incorporate the piece into the collection in a trendy way.

The production process, according to designers, starts with them brainstorming ideas and then sketching a draft design, which helps them develop the concept. Then they pick the types of materials and colors, and finally, the sewing process starts.

“An initial sample of each design is reviewed; if it suits our style and the Suitek Design line, it is shared on social media platforms, and the pieces are manufactured when demand begins,” said Nawafleh.

The founders had challenges when starting the business since it was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic. The lack of resources and materials in Jordan was also one of the difficulties they faced and communication with tailors and customers.

The designers collaborated with several local tailors, “We sometimes had to collaborate with more than one tailor to deliver orders on time.”
Suitek Design is an online shop that ships inside Jordan, and the founders are working on delivering their products to Iraq, Palestine, and Egypt and eventually shipping internationally.

According to Nofal, people are still wary of online shops, so the founders participate in local bazaars and events to showcase their products in real life.

Nofal added that social media supports their business, as it showcases their products and offers outfit inspiration to those looking to create modest looks.
