The event was held under the patronage of Qatari Ambassador to Jordan Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin Jassim Al-Thani, and in the presence of Jordanian Minister of Youth Mohammad Salameh Al-Nabulsi, Secretary-General of the Jordan Olympic Committee Nasser Al-Majali, President of the Jordan Basketball Federation Mohamed Alayyan, and a number of members of the Qatari diplomatic mission and relevant Jordanian personalities.

Various sports activities including a tug-of-war match, a basketball match, a table tennis match, and a Teakwondo show were held at the club’s gymnasium. A football match between the embassy staff and the military attaché also took place at the sports day event.

Qatar celebrated the National Sports Day for the first time in February 2012, after the issuance of Amiral Decree No. 80 in 2011 that the Tuesday of the second week of February of each year will be a sports day for the state and a paid vacation, during which ministries, public institutions, and other government agencies and bodies would organize sporting events for employees and their families to participate in.

The sports day aims to raise awareness on the importance of sport and its role in improving the lives of individuals and societies.
