The book sheds light on debates associated with this art form, particularly the disagreement over whether it should be classified among the visual and plastic arts or considered part of the crafts, presenting explanations for the rationale behind each classification. It also reviews the most important schools, methods, and styles of photographic art, its various branches, their general characteristics, and ways of working with them, starting from the fundamentals of photography.
The book also provides information and tips for beginners on achieving successful photographs across various photographic styles, through explanations and examples of the basic aspects of the photographic process. It also raises numerous issues relevant to advanced "professional" photographers in the field, and delves into some controversial matters, including photo editing and manipulation, presenting verification methods to detect them. In addition, it lays out a clear scientific methodology regarding judging methods in competitions, which may differ from one field to another depending on the approach or school to which the judged photograph belongs, and offers a perspective on when a photograph should be excluded and not considered part of the field of photography.
This book, by its author, colleague Ashraf Mohammad Hassan, represents the culmination of over thirty-five years of practical experience, intended for anyone wishing to learn the secrets of the photographic process, or anyone seeking knowledge and wanting to explore the hidden aspects of photography, or to discuss the many "visions" surrounding the art of photography, or even to form a new perspective on this art.
