The announcement came during a visit by the parliamentary Energy and Mineral Resources Committee to the National Petroleum Company on Wednesday, headed by Ayman Abu Hanieh, where committee members met with the company’s Director General Mohammad Al-Khasawneh, Deputy Director Mohammad Al-Hasan, and Technical Advisor Hazem Al-Dmour to review the company’s operations and future plans in the gas and energy sector.
Technical Advisor Hazem Al-Dmour, in a presentation about the company—which was established in 1995—said the company’s technical teams are working to increase production capacity.
He noted that the company has signed a contract with the Kuwaiti Drilling Company, while also working to absorb the quantities of gas produced from the field and diversify its natural gas buyers by attracting investments and establishing gas compression and liquefaction projects.
He added that memorandums of understanding have been signed with investors interested in purchasing natural gas.
Committee Chairman Ayman Abu Hanieh said the approval of the gas project has helped attract investors to Jordan, praising the National Petroleum Company’s national role in strengthening the energy sector and supplying petroleum products and fuel to citizens, particularly under the current regional circumstances.
He emphasized the importance of the Risha field in supporting the energy sector and natural gas generation, noting that the company was built by Jordanian expertise and operates with the interests of the country and its citizens in mind.
He also commended the company’s staff for continuing operations and meeting local market demand for fuel products despite regional challenges.
Meanwhile, lawmakers Jamal Qamouh, Iman Al-Abbasi, and Naseem Al-Abadi raised a number of questions regarding the company’s operations and future plans.
Director General Mohammad Al-Khasawneh said that approximately 120 technical staff members are currently working in the field, while also outlining the company’s concession areas and its role in Jordan’s energy sector.
