The MoUs were signed by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Al-Kharabsheh and General Manager of the Chemical and Mining Industries Company, Bassam Al-Fakhouri.
The first MoU covers exploration and prospecting for basic, precious, critical, strategic elements, and rare earth elements in the Samra Al-Taybeh Mountains over an area of 13.9 km² for a duration of 67 weeks. The second MoU includes exploration for gold, basic, precious, critical, strategic elements, and rare earth elements in the Buraq Mountains – Abu Barqa over an area of 106 km² for 98 weeks.
During the signing ceremony, Al-Kharabsheh emphasized that this step strengthens the mining sector’s contribution to the national economy, supports investments, facilitates knowledge transfer, and provides job opportunities within a comprehensive national program for the development and exploitation of Jordan’s mineral wealth.
He noted that the MoUs align with government efforts to expand the mining sector’s contribution to the economy, broaden the base of responsible investments, and encourage partnerships with competent national and international companies, promoting technical knowledge transfer and employment for Jordanians.
Al-Kharabsheh added that the signing of these two new MoUs is in line with sustainable development priorities, complementing several MoUs previously signed by the ministry with local and international companies in the fields of gold, copper, rare earth elements, phosphate, and lithium, as part of a comprehensive program to develop and invest Jordan’s mineral resources. He also noted that three additional agreements are currently under negotiation, preparing for the implementation phase.
