Socksat was founded in 2018, and the idea came about after many people asked where they can get cool socks from. Then we made something useful to bridge the gap, and also to spread happiness and positivity in a different way.” Jughol, cofounder of Socksat, said in an interview with Jordan News.

Amman-based startup Socksat aims to change the way people buy socks by making them fun, stylish, and adding quirky designs. There's no better way to display creativity when it comes to fashion than with stylish socks, the cofounders said.

The company’s socks feature a number of interesting designs for every foot, ranging from dots and stripes to Christmas and pizza.

The owners of Socksat said that they wanted to replace the usually boring essential with something that allows everyone to express their personality and style. Jughol added that the demand they saw after launching “gave us a push to keep going, and we launched our website in 2019.”

Yousef Hammad, the other cofounder of Socksat, told Jordan News that when they started their own business, they ran it from home, and had to figure out how to navigate red tape and register their company.

Moreover, transitioning from home-based business founded on Instagram to having an official website also posed many technical challenges.

He added that during the COVID-19 pandemic, people were just buying essentials, and Socksat’s products were considered accessories so retaining customers during the pandemic presented a challenge.

So, the company decided to branch out and find more clients. “During the pandemic, we focused on selling our products outside Jordan,” Hammad said.

Socksat is also home to a diverse range of local and international brands, and is the official retailer for other brands such as Happy Socks, Sikasok, Sock it to me, and The Good Socks, which allows people to browse a wide range of cool and funky socks.

Hammad also said that Socksat’s own designs are inspired by seasons, events, and issues such as Christmas, Ramadan, eid, cancer awareness, and other occasions.

Furthermore, Jughol added that Socksat started creating its own designs and products in 2020, and it has collaborated with different brands in Jordan to create custom socks. “Socksat collaborates with different Jordanian brands, such as Tamatem and Qahwa BLK, in order to create customized socks,” Jughol said.

Socksat received help early on from the INJAZ incubator, “mySTARTUP,” which supports entrepreneurs and their start-ups.

Recently, Socksat also received support from the “Zain Al-Mubadara program fifth edition”, provided by Zain Innovation Campus (ZINC), which aids startups and people with innovative ideas.

Jughol said that youth in Jordan have the energy, ambition, and ideas to implement creative business ideas. “Youth have great ideas but they need more support to transform their ideas into reality,” she said.
