Macron wrote on the "X" platform (formerly Twitter): "Yesterday morning, the French Navy detained another oil tanker, the Tagor, coming from Russia and subject to international sanctions. This operation was carried out on the high seas in the Atlantic Ocean, with the support of several partners, including Britain, in full compliance with maritime law."

According to the ship-tracking website VesselFinder, the oil tanker Tagor flies the flag of Madagascar, and its last port of call was in Murmansk in early May.

On March 20, the French Navy conducted an operation in the western Mediterranean against the Mozambique-flagged oil tanker Dyna, which was also heading from Murmansk.

French President Emmanuel Macron claimed that the tanker belonged to the so-called Russian "shadow fleet." On April 16, French authorities released the Dyna after a fine was paid.

This incident comes amid escalating European scrutiny of vessels suspected of belonging to the Russian "shadow fleet," which Europe asserts Moscow utilizes to circumvent Western sanctions imposed on its oil exports in light of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. — TASS
