The judiciary’s media center stated that the defendants, including Mehdi Rasouli and Mohammad Reza Miri, were accused of “participating in an attempted Zionist coup on January 8 and 9, carrying out acts of sabotage targeting national security, and involvement in the killing of a member of the security forces.”

The statement added that the court considered their actions as “military acts capable of killing and destroying public and private property, and spreading fear among the public,” with the intention of serving the interests of the United States and Israel.

Another defendant, Ebrahim Dowlatabadi, was described as a “notorious thug” and a key figure in the unrest in the Tabarsi area of Mashhad, which resulted in the deaths of several security personnel.

Documents and Confessions

According to the judiciary, documents and eyewitness testimonies indicated that Dowlatabadi led between 250 and 300 armed rioters, which led to clashes with security forces, resulting in deaths, destruction of shops, public and private property, a Basij base, and damage to a bank.

Following trial sessions, the court issued death sentences by hanging, which were upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court and carried out at dawn on Monday.

In recent months, Iranian authorities have announced a series of arrests and executions of individuals convicted of espionage on behalf of Israel. Iran’s parliament also passed a new law in October tightening penalties for those accused of cooperating with foreign intelligence agencies, particularly those of the United States and Israel.
