Snow fell across the northeastern United States early Saturday morning, disrupting air traffic and prompting officials in the states of New York and New Jersey to declare an air travel emergency, despite the storm easing by mid-morning.

Authorities urged residents across much of the Northeast to stay off the roads in anticipation of hazardous weather conditions.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement, “My top priority is the safety of New Yorkers, and I will continue to urge them to exercise extreme caution throughout this storm.”
By Saturday morning, Bob Oravec, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center near Washington, D.C., said the area stretching from Syracuse in central New York to Long Island in the southeastern part of the state, as well as Connecticut, recorded snowfall ranging between six and 10 inches.
Oravec added that New York City received between two and four inches of snow overnight, with 4.3 inches recorded in Central Park—the highest level since 2022.
He continued, “The good news is that the heavy snowfall has ended. Some light snow will fall this morning and taper off by the afternoon.”
However, the weather significantly affected travel. According to flight-tracking website FlightAware, more than 14,400 domestic flights within the United States were delayed or canceled on Saturday as of later in the morning, most of them in the New York area, including at John F. Kennedy International, LaGuardia, and Newark Liberty International airports.
The website also reported that 2,100 international flights were canceled on Saturday.
