The Associated Press confirmed that at least seven explosions were heard in the Venezuelan capital.

Venezuelan outlets also reported explosions at the port of La Guaira in Vargas state—the country’s largest seaport—as well as along the coast and in the city of Higuerote. The reported attacks also targeted Higuerote Airport, La Carlota Air Base, and the Fort Tiuna military complex.

US network CBS News said officials in President Donald Trump’s administration are aware of reports of explosions and aircraft activity over Caracas early Saturday.

In the same context, media reports indicated intensive low-altitude flights by warplanes over Caracas, without official information confirming the background of this aerial activity.

For its part, Reuters reported a power outage in an area near a military base south of the capital, with no immediate official comment from Venezuelan authorities.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro had previously expressed readiness to negotiate with the United States over “anything it wants,” amid a crisis with Washington, which has been pressuring Caracas by deploying warships in the Caribbean.

In a televised interview on Thursday with the state-run VTV channel, Maduro stressed his willingness to discuss counter-narcotics efforts, oil, and economic agreements with Washington.

The United States has been exerting heavy pressure on Caracas for months, accusing Maduro of leading a large-scale drug trafficking network.

Since last September, US forces have carried out around 30 strikes in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific against boats Washington suspects of involvement in drug smuggling, resulting in the deaths of about 107 people.

The United States has so far provided no evidence that the targeted boats were transporting narcotics.

Caracas maintains that the Trump administration is resorting to false accusations of drug trafficking in an attempt to overthrow Maduro and seize the country’s vast oil resources.
