Meanwhile, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday that it carried out a new round of strikes against Iran, under the direction of US President Donald Trump. This came after the Iranian Supreme Leader threatened that Washington would pay the price for "seeking to escalate the conflict."
The command stated that during the eighth consecutive night of US strikes, its forces targeted Iranian military coastal surveillance, air defense facilities, naval capabilities, as well as missile and drone storage sites, with the aim of continuing to degrade Iranian military capabilities.
A statement by CENTCOM reported that the raids, which began at 22:00 GMT for the eighth consecutive night, aim to "undermine Iran's capability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, and immediately punish the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces for the attacks launched against US service members last night."
Iranian news agencies Fars and Tasnim reported that US raids took place near the city of Sirik in southern Iran.
Furthermore, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) announced that an oil sector site was subjected to repeated Iranian attacks on Saturday, resulting in injuries and heavy material losses, according to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Kuwaiti authorities said that firefighting teams are battling two blazes at unspecified locations resulting from the Iranian attacks.
Kuwait had also announced that a second power generation and water desalination plant was hit by an Iranian attack, causing a fire to break out. This marks the second targeting of a power and water desalination plant within two days.
The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy stated that the attack "resulted in a fire breaking out in one of the plant's components, which necessitated taking precautionary operational measures," including disconnecting some generation stations.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that "the repeated targeting of these vital facilities reveals a systematic aggressive approach targeting civilian objects and essential infrastructure, putting the lives and safety of civilians at risk."
