Commenting on the Israeli army's announcement of taking control of the strategic Beaufort Castle (Qal'at al-Shaqif) in southern Lebanon, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that this sends a clear message to enemies that they will lose their strategic positions one after another.

Katz added on his Telegram channel: "Forty-four years after the heroic battle (...) and on the day commemorating the fallen soldiers of the First Lebanon War (1982), the soldiers returned to the top of Beaufort Castle and once again raised the Israeli flag over it."
Katz further noted that taking control of the castle was carried out under the directives of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating it is "one of the most important strategic points for protecting the towns of Galilee."
The Israeli army had published photos showing its soldiers near what appeared to be Beaufort Castle, an archaeological fortress dating back to the Crusader era, which the Lebanese Minister of Culture had previously warned was being subjected to direct shelling. Israeli forces had used Beaufort Castle as a base during their two-decade occupation of southern Lebanon, which ended in 2000. — (Agencies)
