Hamas Fighters Infiltrate Southern Israel, Fire Rockets

SOUTHERN ISRAEL, GAZA STRIP — Dozens of Palestinian fighters belonging to Hamas movement infiltrated southern Israel from Gaza early Saturday in a surprise land, sea and aerial attack and held Israeli soldiers and civilians hostage as rocket sirens sounded across the country.اضافة اعلان

Thousands of rockets were fired against Israeli settlements close to Gaza as well as cities in central Israel.

At least 150 Israelis were injured and dozens killed. More than 30 Israelis were taken hostage and some are reportedly now inside Gaza. A number of settlements were under Palestinian control by 11 am Amman time. 


Israel launched air strikes three hours after the beginning of the Palestinian operation, which Hamas called "Operation Al-Aqsa Flood".

Israel said Hamas has launched a surprise atrack and that the country was now at war. Israeli media reported that rockets fell in Ashdod and Ashkalon. Ben Gurion airport was shut down. Israeli military reservists protesting judicial overhaul announced they will return to duty as Israeli army struck Hamas targets in Gaza. 

As hundreds of rockets rained on Israel the Iron Dome was not operational until 10 am.
