The source stated that “indirect talks between the two sides are continuing this morning in Doha, with Egyptian and Qatari mediators present, to discuss mechanisms for implementing the proposal.”
He noted that “no breakthrough has been achieved so far,” adding that the discussions are centered on the mechanisms of Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza, the entry of humanitarian aid, and a ceasefire agreement.
Describing the negotiations as “difficult,” the source said that “Hamas is serious about reaching an agreement, and it is hoped that the American side will exert pressure on Israel to reach a deal for a ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners and detainees.”
This round of indirect negotiations began in Qatar on Sunday evening after mediators presented both sides with a new proposal, reportedly based on a plan by U.S. envoy Steve Wietkoff.
As the indirect talks entered their third day on Tuesday, the source reiterated, “There has been no breakthrough so far, but negotiations are ongoing” in the Qatari capital.
Meanwhile, amid the ongoing indirect talks between Hamas and Israel in Doha, Gaza’s Civil Defense reported that at least 12 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured in Israeli airstrikes.
U.S. President Donald Trump, who is determined to end the war in Gaza, hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday evening. During the meeting, Netanyahu informed Trump that he had nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.
During their meeting, Trump expressed his belief that Hamas is seeking a ceasefire with Israel. When asked whether the ongoing fighting in Gaza might derail the talks, Trump told reporters at the White House, “They (Hamas) want a meeting, and they want this ceasefire.”
Netanyahu, on the other hand, reiterated his rejection of a fully sovereign Palestinian state, emphasizing that Israel would always maintain security control over the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu said, “Now, people may say it’s not a full state. It’s not a state. That doesn’t matter to us.”
Trump’s special envoy, Steve Wietkoff, stated on Monday that there is still a chance to reach a peace agreement in Gaza.
