Mustafa Barghouti, Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative, said on Thursday that the primary credit for stopping the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip goes to the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, urging the continuation of Israel’s international isolation while remaining vigilant against the maneuvers of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a statement, Barghouti added: “The first credit for halting the criminal genocidal war on Gaza, thwarting the ethnic cleansing plot against its residents, and liberating the Palestinian prisoners goes to the heroism, steadfastness, and bravery of the Palestinian people in Gaza and across all of Palestine, despite the immense sacrifices and severe suffering.”
He emphasized that “the Palestinian struggle, international isolation of Israel, and the global solidarity movement must continue until the Palestinian people achieve their goals of freedom, dignity, and self-determination.”
The Palestinian leader also stressed the need to remain cautious of the tactics of Netanyahu and his “fascist government.”
Barghouti highlighted that “all efforts should focus on supporting the resilience of our people in Gaza, rebuilding everything that has been destroyed, and confronting the settler-colonial aggression in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.”
Early Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement on the first phase of his plan to halt the fighting and exchange prisoners in Gaza.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social account: “I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have signed the first phase of our peace plan.”
He added: “This means that all hostages (prisoners in Gaza) will be released very soon, Israel will withdraw its forces to an agreed-upon line as a first step toward a strong, lasting, and eternal peace, and all parties will be treated fairly.”
Trump continued: “A great day for the Arab and Islamic worlds, for Israel, for all neighboring countries, and for the United States. We thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey who worked with us to achieve this historic and unprecedented event.”
