The sources stated on Thursday that the Israeli army eliminated the Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, in airstrikes targeting Bandar Abbas in southern Iran, according to Israeli media reports.

Israeli officials identify Tangsiri, who has served as the IRGC Navy Chief since 2018, as the primary official responsible for the plans to close the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier this month, the Iranian commander had asserted that his forces maintain full control over the Strait of Hormuz, noting that "there is no need to lay mines" as long as control is maintained.

Born in Bushehr in 1962, Tangsiri joined the IRGC at an early age and is considered to have extensive field experience in naval operations.
