Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the Israeli attacks on Lebanon, which resulted in casualties on Friday, stating that they “reflect a disregard” for the will of the international community and undermine diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing the country.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Aoun warned that the continued Israeli assaults constitute “a clearly hostile act intended to obstruct the diplomatic efforts undertaken by Lebanon with sisterly and friendly countries, foremost among them the United States, to consolidate stability and halt Israeli hostilities against Lebanon.”
He strongly denounced “the raids carried out by Israel last night by land and sea, targeting the city of Sidon and towns in the Bekaa.”
Aoun emphasized that “these raids represent a new violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and a clear breach of international commitments. They also reflect a disregard for the will of the international community, particularly United Nations resolutions calling for full compliance with Resolution 1701 and its complete implementation.”
He renewed his call on countries sponsoring stability in the region to “assume their responsibilities to immediately stop the attacks and apply pressure to ensure respect for international resolutions, in a manner that preserves Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, and prevents further escalation and tension in the region.”
On Friday evening, Israeli aircraft targeted a building in the town of Riyaq in the Baalbek district of eastern Lebanon, killing 10 people and injuring more than 30 others.
Israeli warplanes also carried out two strikes on the plains of Qasr Nabha and Tammine Al-Tahta in the Baalbek district, and three airstrikes in the Al-Shaara area at the foothills of the eastern Lebanon mountain range.
In the south, Israel targeted the Ain Al-Hilweh camp in the city of Sidon, resulting in two fatalities. Hamas stated that the Israeli strike hit a headquarters belonging to a joint security force tasked with maintaining security inside the camp.
Lebanon’s An-Nahar newspaper quoted the Israeli Broadcasting Authority as saying that “the attack on Ain Al-Hilweh in southern Lebanon was carried out by naval vessels.”
Israel has killed more than 4,000 people and wounded around 17,000 others during its offensive on Lebanon, which began in October 2023 and escalated into a full-scale war in September 2024, before ending later that year following the signing of a ceasefire agreement.
Despite the agreement, Israel has continued near-daily violations through attacks on Lebanon, resulting in hundreds of additional casualties.
Israel also continues to occupy five Lebanese hills it seized during the most recent war, in addition to other territories it has occupied for decades.
