Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa said Wednesday that Syria has embarked on a path toward recovery and rebuilding, noting that weapons have been brought under control and the army and country have been unified from north to south.
Speaking during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, al-Sharaa said Syria has begun building bridges of partnership from a firm sovereign foundation, adding that the transitional justice process in Syria is now underway.
He said the “clouds of sanctions” had cleared following the repeal of the Caesar Act and the removal of Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Al-Sharaa said Syria had demonstrated to the world that the security of the Middle East is shaped in Syria, noting that production has resumed at more than 3,000 production lines across the country.
On the issue of the Golan Heights, the Syrian president stressed that the Golan will remain Syrian territory and that all annexation decisions are invalid under United Nations resolutions.
He added that Syria remains committed to the 1974 agreement and called for Israel to withdraw from Syrian territory.
Al-Sharaa said Israel, through what he described as its “aberrant behavior,” has been encroaching on Syria, citing around 500 air and artillery strikes and more than 1,200 incursions.
He also reaffirmed Syria’s rejection of “Israel’s persistent attempts to impose a fait accompli” in the country.
