Microsoft is already preparing to discontinue the Microsoft Lens app on iOS and Android, which could become a real problem if the app is still handling your quick document tasks.

Microsoft Lens is a scanning app that lets you capture documents and convert them into digital files, saving them as Word documents, PDFs, or PowerPoint slides.
On February 9, 2026, Microsoft will remove the Lens app from the App Store and Google Play, meaning it won’t be easy to reinstall if you change your phone or reset your device.
Starting March 9, 2026, the Lens app will stop creating new scans because Microsoft will discontinue the cloud service that powers this feature, according to the company.
After this date, the document scanning feature will move to the scanning function in the OneDrive mobile app and will also appear in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, according to a report by Digital Trends, as cited by Al Arabiya Business.
The major change will be where files are saved: OneDrive automatically stores files in the cloud. If you prefer to keep copies on your phone, you’ll need an extra step to download them after scanning.
What You Need to Do:
Make sure the Microsoft Lens app is installed wherever you need it before early March to maintain your current workflow.
Run a quick test in OneDrive to understand how the app works, and ensure you can save, share, and organize results as you normally do.
Export any important files from Lens while it’s still easy to do so. Make sure you’re using the correct account and move files to a location you control—this way, you won’t face access issues after March 9.
