A study conducted by Spanish scientists revealed that food passage speed through the intestines is linked to the consumption of vitamin B1-rich foods, as part of research into the genes responsible for bowel motility. The study involved 260,000 participants, focusing on genes that affect intestinal function, without directly examining thiamine (vitamin B1) characteristics. Results showed that two types of genes influence the expression of genes that regulate B1 transport, according to Russia Today.

The study also demonstrated the effectiveness of thiamine supplements in treating intestinal inflammation. Researchers plan to explore in future studies whether targeted dietary intervention with thiamine supplements can alleviate bowel movement disorders and symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome in genetically predisposed individuals.
Vitamin B1 is abundant in nuts, sunflower seeds, legumes, meat, and fish. Its primary role is to help convert food into energy, and since the body does not produce it, it must be obtained regularly through diet.
