Published in Scientific Reports, the study revealed that practices such as regularly washing the eyes can significantly lessen eye irritation and redness associated with seasonal allergies.

The researchers analyzed data from 476 users of the AllerSearch app, including about 70 individuals who routinely washed their eyes as a preventive measure to relieve allergy symptoms. The findings showed that these participants experienced less itching, tearing, and redness, and were able to enjoy longer symptom-free days during allergy season, with a noticeable improvement in overall health. The study also confirmed that eye washing did not worsen dry eye symptoms, indicating that the practice is safe.

The researchers noted that these results support previous recommendations by Japanese ophthalmologists to use eye washing as a gentle measure to address allergic conjunctivitis. However, the study did not specify the exact frequency of eye washing or the specific techniques used by app participants.

While not a substitute for medical treatment, the researchers emphasized that eye washing is a simple, safe way to relieve seasonal allergy symptoms and improve quality of life. (Lenta.ru)
