A recent study has revealed that sticking to the same meals daily and maintaining a consistent calorie count may help in losing more weight compared to diverse diets.

According to the scientific website Healthline, the study analyzed detailed food records of 112 adults with overweight or obesity who were enrolled in a structured behavioral weight-loss program. Participants logged everything they ate daily using a mobile app and weighed themselves every day.
To ensure the data reflected consistent eating habits, researchers focused on the first 12 weeks of the program—a period when individuals are typically most committed to their dietary habits.
The study found that individuals who repeated the same food choices, rather than eating a wide variety of foods, lost an average of 5.9% of their body weight, compared to only 4.3% for those who followed a more varied diet.
Kristin Kirkpatrick, a registered dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Wellness & Preventive Medicine who participated in the study, stated: "There is compelling evidence suggesting that consistency and regularity in eating may help some individuals improve their diet and lose weight."
She added: "Consistency works when the foundation is strong. If meals are nutrient-dense, they enhance nutritional quality. However, if they lack essential elements, it could lead to persistent deficiencies."
At the same time, Kirkpatrick noted certain limitations of the study, such as its reliance on self-reported data, the highly structured program environment, and its observational design.
