Japanese actress Yuri Nakamura, star of the Netflix series Romantic Anonymous, has died at the age of 44, following a long battle with rectal cancer.
Her talent agency, "Alpha Agency," announced her death, explaining that she had fought a long battle with the disease, having first been diagnosed with cancer around 13 years ago.
According to the agency's statement, Yuri Nakamura decided at the time, in agreement with the agency's president, not to publicly disclose her illness, in order to avoid causing concern among her colleagues, clients, and partners in the entertainment industry.
After recovering, the actress returned to the work she loved, while making sure to undergo regular medical checkups, before receiving news in January 2025 that the disease had returned.
The statement noted that Yuri underwent initial surgery, but subsequent tests later revealed that the cancer had spread to other organs, and she continued her treatment while trying to maintain her artistic career.
The agency added that the actress had been preparing to return to work in August 2026, before suffering an acute intestinal obstruction and being told that she had little time left.
Nakamura spent her final days surrounded by her family and those close to her, according to the agency, which described her as having faced the disease with courage, maintaining her smile and strong spirit throughout her years of treatment.
A number of her fans paid tribute to her on social media, praising her body of work and the strength she showed throughout her battle with illness.
Alongside Romantic Anonymous, Nakamura also appeared in the Netflix series Beyond Goodbye, as well as in several films, including Like Father, Like Son, I Wish, Maestro!, After the Storm, and Motherhood.
