Launch of the "Green Salts from Seed to Harvest" Event
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in Jordan, in cooperation with the Greater Salt Municipality, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and the Ministry of Culture, and with the support of the Government of Italy through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, organized the "Green Salt from Seed to Harvest" event as part of the community awareness campaign of the project "Green Salt: Public Spaces and Living Heritage for Social and Economic Development".اضافة اعلان

The opening of the event was attended by the Chairman of the Greater Salt Municipality Committee, Ali Al-Batayneh, the Director of the UN-Habitat Programme in Jordan, Eng. Dima Abu Diab, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Jordan, Sherry Ritsima Anderson, and the representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Jordan, Noha Abdulaziz Bawazir, along with representatives of partner bodies from official and local institutions.

The event aimed to raise awareness of the importance of local plants and green spaces in protecting the environment, preserving the cultural and heritage identity of the city of Salt, in addition to introducing the local community to the "Green Salt" project and the proposed interventions to revive and develop public spaces in the heritage center, and to involve various segments of society in building a common vision for a more sustainable and vibrant city.

The event witnessed the opening of the "Plant Journey in Salt" exhibition at Aqaba Bin Nafie Square, which provided an interactive experience that highlighted the life cycle of the plant, the importance of local plants, their associated value chains, and their role in supporting the local economy, in addition to highlighting the food heritage and nature-inspired artistic creation.

The event also included a field tour of a number of public sites that will be rehabilitated within the project, where participants were briefed on the proposed designs and the objectives of interventions aimed at improving the quality of public spaces, enhancing vegetation cover, and preserving the city's heritage identity.

The tour concluded with a participatory activity in the Pomegranate Drawer, which included planting local plants and painting murals, to consolidate the concept of shared responsibility towards public spaces and encourage positive environmental practices, before concluding the event with an evening that brought together music, arts and local heritage, celebrating the relationship between man and nature, and embodying the vision of the "Green Salt" project to build a greener and more sustainable city.
