AMMAN — The Jordan Transparency Center has recommended the cancelation of the multi-category system which was recently proposed by the government on the electricity bill, according to a statement carried by Jo24. اضافة اعلان

The center called for mainstreaming tariff on the entire power consumption, while maintaining subsidy on the consumption of needy families, according to Jo24.

“It is unreasonable to expect people to pay 265 fils/kilowatt per hour for the segment that exceeds the monthly limit of 1000 kilowatt per hour,” said the statement.

The center said the world has experienced economic stagnation since the onset of the COVID-19 epidemic and economic growth has declined sharply since the beginning of the year, therefore, in order for Jordan to overcome the current economic crisis, it reiterates earlier recommendations and solutions presented to the Lower House Energy and Mineral Resources Committee and to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The center stated that in light of the significant decrease in the Kingdom’s electrical load and the suspension of operation by several power-generating plants due to low electricity demand, there is an urgent need to review contracts with private companies producing traditional and renewable energy.
