The Minister added that this achievement aligns with the Royal Vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II, which underscores the importance of integrating international efforts to tackle climate change and fostering collective action based on climate justice for the most affected nations. It also reflects the active role of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein in pushing for innovative, sustainable solutions and empowering youth in climate action, alongside the government's ongoing directives to expedite national programs and strengthen international partnerships.
He noted that hosting this office represents a major milestone in the Kingdom's journey toward enhancing regional and international climate action, reflecting global confidence in Jordan's role in supporting environmental efforts and achieving sustainable development. The Kingdom, through this office, will work to strengthen regional partnerships, coordinate efforts between countries, and implement joint climate initiatives to support the region's priorities and enhance its resilience against the impacts of climate change.
Dr. Suleiman further stressed that this achievement sends a message of hope, cooperation, and progress for the entire region. He pointed out that the Kingdom will continue to work with a spirit of responsibility and transparency to serve as the region's voice in international forums, contributing to global efforts to combat climate change and build a more sustainable future.
In a related context, the Green Climate Fund announced the establishment of its new regional office in Amman, making Jordan the first Arab country to host a GCF regional office. This solidifies its position as a regional hub for climate action, particularly in the fields of climate adaptation and natural resource management.
Arthur Cardoso de Lacerda, Secretary to the Board of the GCF, confirmed that this move marks a significant milestone in the Fund's evolution and reflects a shift toward strengthening field presence. He noted that expanding regional reach will help accelerate project development, bolster partnerships, and achieve a greater impact on the ground.
For her part, Eng. Maysoon Al-Zoubi, Director of the BRCCJ Project, stated that hosting the regional office in Amman—which covers Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East—is a strategic achievement that will support vital sectors, especially agriculture. She noted that this step will positively impact existing projects by facilitating access to financing and enhancing technical support, thereby improving the efficiency of adaptation to climate change challenges.
