Unemployment in Jordan stands at 22.6% in Q2

AMMAN — The unemployment rate during the second quarter of this year reached 22.6 percent, a decrease of 2.2 percent from the second quarter of 2021, and a decrease of 0.2 percent from the first quarter of 2022, according to the Department of Statistics, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.اضافة اعلان

The unemployment rate for men was 20.7 percent, compared to 29.4 percent for women; a decrease of 2 percent and 3.7 percent respectively, compared to the second quarter of 2021.

By comparing the unemployment rate for the second quarter of 2022 with the first quarter of 2022, it is evident that the unemployment rate had increased for men by 0.2 percent, and decreased for women by 2.1 percent.

The results showed that the unemployment rate was higher among university degree holders, reaching 26.2 percent, compared to those with other levels of education.

The results indicated that 53.5 percent of those unemployed were those with secondary-school diplomas or higher degrees, and that 46.2 percent of those unemployed  had educational qualifications below the secondary school level.

Levels of unemployment differed according to educational level and gender, as 25.5 percent of men with bachelor degrees or higher were unemployed compared to 78.9 percent of women with similar degrees. While the overall level of unemployment for those aged 15–24, stood at 42.2 percent for men and 63.6 percent for women.

At the governorate level, the highest unemployment rate was recorded in the Tafileh Governorate, at 27 percent, while the lowest unemployment rate was recorded in Amman at 20.5 percent.

The results indicated that 71.8 percent of the total female labor force had a bachelor’s degree or higher education level, compared to 24.7 percent among males.
