Handling traffic data in Aqaba's port and logistics facilities revealed that around 13.3 million tons of cargo were handled during the first half of 2026, compared to nearly 11.83 million tons during the same period in 2025—marking a 12% increase.

According to a statistical report issued by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), the Aqaba Multi-Purpose Port led the port system's growth during this period. The total cargo handled there surged by 61%, rising from about 2.23 million tons to around 3.58 million tons.
This growth was driven by a 53% increase in grain handling, reaching more than 2.05 million tons, a 22% increase in general cargo, a 25% increase in Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off) cargo measured in tons, and a 40% increase in livestock measured in tons, alongside handling 468.6 thousand tons of bulk sugar during the period.
The Aqaba Multi-Purpose Port recorded a strong performance during the second quarter of the year, as cargo traffic soared by 97% compared to Q2 2025, reaching approximately 2.29 million tons.
Additionally, total cargo handled through the Oil Port increased by 53%, growing from about 1.44 million tons to over 2.20 million tons. The main increases included gasoline by 75%, diesel by 32%, and crude oil by 21%.
At the Passenger Terminal, general cargo handling rose by 23% to reach 737 thousand tons, while the number of Ro-Ro units (trucks) increased by 14%.
The Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Port recorded an 11% increase, with handled quantities reaching 337.3 thousand tons.
At the container level, the Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) handled 472,681 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) during the first half of 2026, a 1% increase compared to the same period last year. Imported transit containers surged by 155%, while non-transit import container handling dropped by 12%, and export container handling decreased by 3%.
In terms of passenger traffic, the number of sea passengers traveling through the Passenger Terminal rose by 1% to reach 198,696 passengers. Air passenger traffic through King Hussein International Airport also grew by 4%, reaching 95,089 passengers.
Meanwhile, the Industrial Port maintained a stable handling volume at around 2.78 million tons. It recorded a 24% increase in fertilizer handling, an 18% increase in ammonia, and a 3% increase in potash, which offset a decline in sulfur and phosphoric acid.
