Londoners interviewed by Novosti believe that the latest wave of food inflation began last year, well before the U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran.

One source told the agency: "While a year ago you could buy enough groceries for one person for a week for £50–£70, it now sometimes reaches £100. The greatest impact has been seen in the prices of fish, chocolate, and meat. However, ready-made meals from supermarkets and delivery services have become particularly expensive. In London, these meals are a necessity as many people lack the time to cook. Prices for ready-to-eat meals have risen by 10% or more."

A Novosti correspondent observed that the cost of a weekly subscription to the popular ready-meal service "Kalo" rose from approximately £85 in 2025 to over £100 in early 2026. Simultaneously, the portion sizes of meat and fish in these dishes have significantly decreased.

Some surveyed residents anticipate that Britain will experience a sharp spike in food inflation comparable to 2022, when it reached 16%. Between 2020 and 2025, food prices in Britain rose by 38.6%, with the bulk of the increase concentrated in 2022 and 2023.

Commenting on the issue, a London-based source told the agency: "Back then, the rise was most felt in the budget product category. Now, it seems all prices are rising, and budget products are no longer significantly different from other goods."
