Major General Ahmed Al-Akalyk, Director General of Jordanian Customs, emphasized that the customs authority represents a key partner for the industrial sector in supporting national production, enhancing industrial competitiveness, and increasing exports, directly contributing to improving the business environment and economic growth.

Speaking at a meeting organized by the East Amman Industrial Association in cooperation with the Amman Chamber of Industry, Al-Akalyk highlighted the authority’s commitment to providing competitive customs services focused on time efficiency and rapid processing, supporting and boosting the national economy.
The meeting, held at the association’s headquarters and attended by representatives from multiple Jordanian companies and factories, also introduced the “Sand” government app, a new customer service platform designed to facilitate communication with industrialists and citizens, delivering customs services more quickly and transparently.
Al-Akalyk noted that the industrial sector is a key driver of economic growth and trade balance improvement, stating that Jordanian industry has recently witnessed significant progress in both production levels and regional and international market presence, positively impacting national exports and supporting the economy.
He stressed the importance of continuous collaboration with the industrial sector, recognizing its role in employment and economic support, and highlighted the need for direct, ongoing communication with industrialists to address their feedback and needs on the ground.
Al-Akalyk also pointed out that economic indicators since the start of the year are positive, particularly in trade, import, and export activities, reflecting notable improvements in productive sectors and motivating continued development of customs procedures to support industrial competitiveness and enhance the investment climate.
He emphasized that the relationship between customs and the industrial sector is based on trust and cooperation, with customs always open to engagement with industrialists and their representatives through various service forums, ensuring feedback is addressed, challenges mitigated, and service levels enhanced within the legal and institutional framework.
The customs director reaffirmed that the authority plays a pivotal role in supporting and developing the national economy by enhancing the productive capacity of economic sectors, especially the industrial sector, which directly impacts economic growth and competitiveness.
East Amman Industrial Association President Iyad Abu Haltam also highlighted the importance of customs in supporting the industrial sector, emphasizing that public-private cooperation strengthens government performance and improves the investment environment.
He noted that the relationship between industry and customs is built on mutual respect and understanding of customs laws and regulations, with the goal of serving the public interest and supporting national industry while complying with official rules. Abu Haltam stressed that the industrial sector is a key driver of economic growth and revenue enhancement, and that trade agreements should be leveraged to benefit local industry and expand its presence in global markets.
He praised the government’s decision to freeze customs duties on imported goods, highlighting the association’s efforts to raise awareness among members on best customs practices and encourage constructive dialogue to develop the industrial sector, increase efficiency, and boost the presence of Jordanian products locally and regionally.
During the meeting, customs procedures to facilitate the industrial sector were presented, including the National Export Registry, pre-clearance system, and approval platform.
The discussion also covered challenges facing industrial sectors, such as valuation, inspection, e-commerce, handling costs at Madona Customs, digitalization of the Euro Certificate, and unified clearance data at Aqaba Customs, with agreements to address these issues through sectoral committees.
