The Wall Street Journal, citing officials, reported that U.S. President Donald Trump is considering the option of launching limited strikes against Iran.
According to the report, a less likely option under consideration involves a broader and more intensive bombing campaign targeting Iran.
The newspaper also cited Trump’s advisers as saying that he remains open to reaching a diplomatic solution with Tehran.
It added that imposing a U.S. blockade on the Strait of Hormuz is being considered as a potential way to break the deadlock in peace negotiations with Iran.
The U.S.–Iran talks aimed at ending the war and reaching a peace agreement collapsed after marathon negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance announced on Sunday that the talks “did not result in an agreement.”
An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the two sides “reached agreement on several points,” but differences remained over two key issues, preventing a comprehensive deal.
