AMMAN — The Specialized Surgery Hospital at the Al-Bashir Hospital complex has been operated successfully and has kept pace with the increasing number of patients needing surgical intervention in thoracic, vascular, catheterization, and heart surgery, the Ministry of Health confirmed. اضافة اعلان

Patients in need of specialized intervention, that would have otherwise been transferred to non-governmental hospitals at the ministry’s expense, now receive the care they need at the specialized surgery hospital. The savings annually are estimated at JD12 million, according to Dr. Ghandi Al-Amayreh, head of the department of general and specialized surgery at Al Bashir hospital.

The specialized surgical hospital achieved financial savings of nearly JD1 million in the first month of its operation. It has completed more than five open heart surgeries, more than 55 cardiac catheterization surgeries, 33 thoracic surgeries, and more than 120 arterial surgeries.

“The opening of the specialized surgery hospital has reduced the pressure on Al-Bashir hospital,” Dr. Amayreh told Jordan News in an interview. “The number of doctors at the Ministry of Health couldn’t cover the number of patients in Al-Bashir Hospital, which needs specialized surgeries such as heart surgery, chest surgery, and vascular surgery,” he added.

Dr. Ghandi insisted that there was no relation between the recent events that took place at Al-Bashir Hospital with the decision to create a specialized surgery unit, that had been planned for nearly two years. The unit has three operating rooms, cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, and vascular surgery.

The specialized surgical hospital was inaugurated by Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh last July, and has become a transformational center among all ministry hospitals. Since its inception the hospital has acquired the services of several specialist doctors with a long and distinguished history working in the public and private sectors.

The ministry said that it will start providing ambulance and emergency services at three additional health centers in the vicinity of Al-Bashir Hospital complex in order to reduce the pressure on the emergency department at the hospital.
