AMMAN — Minister of Interior Mazen Faraya on
Wednesday called on the public to avoid purchasing highly priced goods,
according to Khaberni News.
Participating in a meeting at the
Interior Ministry that was also attended by the ministers of state for media
affairs, industry, and agriculture, Faraya said that there is a global surge in
prices and Jordan is not an exception. He added that the government is seeking
to reduce the Kingdom’s vulnerability to such added burden.
Faraya said that the meeting was held to
discuss ways to manage the prices in the interest of citizens, farmers, and
merchants.
He underlined the need for inspection
teams in markets all over the Kingdom, especially where consumers complain of
high prices.
“There will be tough penalties against
anyone who exceeds the set prices of different goods,” he said. “People’s
financial situation does not allow them to buy essential goods at high prices,”
Faraya concluded.
